Greg Kroah-Hartman en Ben Hutchings hebben Linux Kernel 5.2.2, 5.1.19, 4.19.60, 4.14.134, 4.9.186, 4.4.186 en 3.16.71 vrijgegeven. De Kernel is het hart van het besturingssysteem en zit, simpel gezegd, als laag tussen de hardware en de applicaties in. Een samenvatting van de veranderingen in versie 5.2 kun je op Phoronix en KernelNewbies terugvinden. Zoals gewoonlijk zijn de changelogs niet in een beknopte vorm beschikbaar en bevat de aankondiging van elke uitgave niet meer dan "I'm announcing the release of the x.x.x kernel. Deepin is een Linux-distributie die zijn basis in China heeft, maar ook daarbuiten wordt ingezet en onderhouden. Het is gebaseerd op Debian, en richt zich op het bieden van een overzichtelijke en gemakkelijk te gebruiken omgeving. Het bevat een eigen Deepin Desktop Environment, die gebruikmaakt van de Qt5-toolkit. Het bevat applicaties als Chromium, Thunderbird, WPS Office en de Linux Kernel 4.15. De ontwikkelaars hebben versie 15.11 uitgebracht met de volgende opmerkingen: Deepin 15.11 – Better Never Stops Welcome to deepin 15.11 release. Versie 3.6 van Rufus is uitgekomen. Rufus is een Windows-programma waarmee zelfstartende usb-sticks kunnen worden gemaakt. Handig om bijvoorbeeld een besturingssysteem te installeren, wat sneller gaat vanaf een usb-stick dan van een cd of dvd, om het bios bij te werken of om een systeem te benaderen dat niet meer wil starten. Er is overigens een groot aantal tooltjes waarmee dit gedaan kan worden, maar Rufus beweert een van de snelste in zijn soort te zijn. Met versie 3.0 heeft het programma een iets ander uiterlijk gekregen en is de ondersteuning voor Windows XP en Vista vervallen. Oracle heeft versies 12.0.2, 11.0.4, en 8 versie 221 van Java Standard Edition uitgebracht. Oracle brengt sinds versie 11.x alleen nog maar de Java SE Development Kit (JDK) uit, in zowel de Oracle JDK- als de OpenJDK-smaak, waarbij de laatste onder de gpl-licentie wordt aangeboden. Er worden geen Java Runtime Environment (JRE) en Server Java Runtime Environment (Server JRE) meer uitgebracht. Wel is het mogelijk om met jlink een kleinere runtime samen te stellen. In juli 2017 is versie 1.7.13 van Media Player Classic – Home Cinema uitgekomen en daarbij gaven de ontwikkelaars aan dat ze geen nieuwe versies meer uit zouden brengen. De broncode is echter open source, en een ontwikkelaar die als clsid bij de website Doom9 bekendstaat en zelf lange tijd bij mpc-hc betrokken was, brengt nu af en toe nieuwe, onofficiële versies uit. Deze bevatten alleen kleine verbeteringen en ook wordt altijd de laatste versie van de LAV Filters en MediaInfo meegeleverd. De changelog voor versie 1.8.7 is hieronder te vinden. Apple heeft versies 12.4, 10.3.4 en 9.3.6 van iOS uitgebracht. Apple iOS is het besturingssysteem voor de iPhone, de iPod touch en de iPad. Versie 12 van iOS kan alleen op de iPhone 5s, iPad mini 2 en zesde generatie iPod touch of nieuwer worden geïnstalleerd. In versie 12 heeft Apple ingezet op het verbeteren van de prestaties, wat vooral op oudere hardware goed is te merken. Verder kunnen gebruikers inzicht krijgen in het gebruik van hun apparaat. Apple heeft een update uitgebracht voor macOS 10.14, beter bekend als Mojave. Mojave kan gratis uit de Apple Store worden opgehaald. Het biedt onder meer verbeteringen aan de desktop en Finder, en introduceert een donkere modus. Verder heeft het besturingssysteem een nieuwe versie van Safari die tracking door fingerprinting tegengaat. Ook laat Safari een melding zien als bijvoorbeeld Facebook via een Like-knop de gebruiker probeert te tracken. Daarnaast ondersteunt de desktop 'stacks' van bestanden en kan de wallpaper zich aanpassen aan het moment van de dag. Het versienummer van deze update is 10.14.6. Daarnaast is de vierde bètaversie van 10.15 verschenen met de naam Catalina. Matrix is een open specificatie voor veilige en decentrale communicatie. Om van dit netwerk gebruik te kunnen maken, kun je de applicatie Riot inzetten. Hiermee kun je chatten, bestanden uitwisselen, audio- en videogesprekken voeren, notificaties instellen en bots tot leven wekken om integraties met andere applicaties op te zetten. De ontwikkelaars hebben de 1.3.0-versie van Riot Web uitgebracht met de volgende aankondiging: ️Message Editing & Reactions 👍 The wait is over, they’re finally here! Message editing and reactions are live on Riot Web (1.3), Riot iOS (0.9.1) and RiotX (0.1.0) on Android! Message Editing To err is human; to fix your errors before anyone notices, divine. Message editing in Riot lets you edit your messages after sending. You can even correct your messages without taking your fingers off the keyboard — just press ‘up’ or ‘down’ to navigate through your message history to make the necessary changes. There’s no time limit on your ability to edit messages, but be aware that your message’s history is still available — anyone can see how a message has changed over time by clicking on the (edited) link next to the message text. Editing is live across Riot Web (and Desktop), iOS and RiotX on Android, so give it a whirl and let us know how you get on! Reactions Riot’s new reactions feature lets you mark any message with emoji to convey your agreement, disagreement, happiness, celebration, scepticism, love, sense of rocketship or the wideness of your eyes. You can add a new reaction by clicking on the reaction icon that appears when you hover over a message; you can ‘+1’ somebody else’s reaction by clicking on the reaction emoji beneath the message. Reactions are also live across Riot Web (and Desktop), iOS and RiotX on Android. Riot iOS and Riot Web only support sending the eight ‘quick reactions’ today (👍👎😄🎉😕❤🚀👀) — support for reacting with any officially recognised emoji is implemented on RiotX and will land across all platforms soon! Custom emoji support will come in the future — watch this space for updates. What about Riot Android support? With RiotX on Android now in public beta, we’re focusing all of our Android development effort on getting it ready to replace the legacy Android app. As a result, we’ve chosen to implement message editing and reactions in RiotX and not in Riot Android. Android users can always install RiotX alongside the legacy Android app to get the best of both worlds 😛 Caveats! Implementing message editing and reactions in a decentralised, openly-federated, end-to-end encrypted messaging platform is tricky. We’re still developing the implementation, and in particular the Matrix specification proposal for edits and reactions (MSC1849) is still in flight. Home Assistant is een opensourceplatform voor home-automation dat draait onder Python 3. Het draait via Hassbian op een Raspberry Pi 3 of een Linux-, macOS- of Windows-computer. Het ondersteunt het detecteren van apparaten, zoals Nest-thermostaten, Philips Hue, Belkin WeMo-schakelaars, Mr. Coffee-koffiezetapparaten, de slimme schakelaars van IKEA en het mqtt-protocol. Daarnaast kan het waar mogelijk deze apparaten aansturen en automatisering toepassen. Voor meer informatie verwijzen we naar deze pagina en ons Forum. De ontwikkelaars hebben versie 0.96.4 uitgebracht, met de volgende aanpassingen. 0.96: Notion, updated sidebar, advanced mode It’s time for Home Assistant 0.96. It’s a great release, but we also made some changes, so please pay attention. Last release that supports Python 3.5 This will be the last release that supports Python 3.5. Home Assistant 0.97 will require at least Python 3.6. If you are using Hass.io or Docker, you will not have to do anything. If you are running Hassbian, upgrade instructions are here. If you run Home Assistant inside a virtual environment, please follow the instructions for your OS to update. Home Assistant has adopted a new Python support strategy. Starting August 1, we will now support the last two minor stable releases of Python. This is currently Python 3.6 and Python 3.7. Python 3.8 is expected to be released near the end of the year. Once that is released, Python 3.6 support is deprecated and removed 2 months later. Pimp my Sidebar The sidebar has gotten an improved look! Idea started with a mockup by @JuanMTech on Twitter and grew into a full blown implementation. When visiting Home Assistant on devices with big screens (tablets, laptops, desktops), the sidebar will now always be visible in a minimized mode with the ability to fully hide it via the profile page. The developer tool buttons have been collapsed into a single menu item. The dev tools will now store it’s exact state when you navigate away, included the dev tool that is open. We’ve also taken the opportunity to make notifications accessible from the sidebar, instead of only via the Lovelace UI. On mobile devices the sidebar will behave like it previously did. Check the demo for a preview. Climate This release includes a major clean up of our climate integration, correcting some architectural flaws from the past. The goal of this clean up was to a better job at providing an abstraction layer that fits many devices. This will improve compatibility with services that interact with Home Assistant (like Alexa/Google) and will allow us to make sure the UI works for everyone. We’ve done a lot of testing during the beta, but there might still be things that don’t work as expected. If you notice anything, please report by opening a bug report. Versie 3.11.0 van Matomo is uitgekomen. Matomo is de nieuwe naam van Piwik en is een opensourcealternatief voor Google Analytics. Het maakt gebruik van php en een MySQL-database om zijn werk te doen. De functionaliteit kan eenvoudig worden uitgebreid met plug-ins, waarvan er ruim twintig worden meegeleverd. Natuurlijk kun je deze ook uitzetten als bepaalde functionaliteit niet nodig is. Voor meer informatie over Matomo verwijzen we naar deze pagina en een overzicht van de planning is op deze pagina te vinden. De releasenotes voor deze uitgave zien er als volgt uit: What’s new? This release includes security improvements (including a security fix) and also several performance improvements and bug fixes. In terms of new feature, you can now create Goals that are triggered when visitors stay for a certain amount of time on the website (when the visit duration is greater than X minutes). This lets you measure and later segment your users who are more engaged and stay longer on your website. In terms of security improvements, a basic rate limiter for password resets was added which prevents possible mass emailing (when many password resets are requested within a short time). Another issue has been fixed where affected users’ passwords were mistakenly changed to a weak value. Now minimal password strengths requirements are enforced (forcing users with very weak passwords to reset them). Also Matomo UI and reports will now send the ‘Referrer-Policy’ header which will prevent leaking the Matomo URL to other websites when you click on links to these websites within Matomo. Several performance improvements were also implemented which can improve speed of some Matomo requests around 10%. Over the next few releases we’re hoping to continue making performance improvements. Also if your Matomo database is replicated (eg. Master-reader configuration) you can now easily configure Matomo to execute read queries on the database reader server, which will reduce CPU usage on the master server and improve speed of all requests (see the new [database_reader] section in the global.ini.php). In terms of UX/Design, we’ve made minor tweaks to improve usability. For example the Websites drop down menu list is now wider and will show the full name of your websites. Several bugs were fixed in the UI, Tracker API, Two-factor compatibility with embedding reports, archiver, and other more minor issues. We are grateful for all community members who reported feedback and suggestions, our awesome team of translators for their work, and our Matomo Cloud hosting customers and Premium features customers for their amazing support! 67 tickets have been closed by more than 19 contributors!
